Coir Logs
Coir is the husk from Coconuts. Packed into rolls or logs, they are often used in peatland restoration. They can be used to block gullies, dam small drain or as simple bunds in Rush dominated areas. The Coir logs will slow the flow of water and raise the local water table. Over time we expect the rushes to decline and mosses to become more important. Coir is biodegradable but lasts long enough to slow water flow, encourage sediment to accumulate and the growth of vegetation. The coir will last for three to five years, by this time its role will have been taken over by the plants that establish behind it.
